A conclusion in an academic paper is used to summarize the main points and arguments presented throughout the paper. The purpose of this is to remind the reader of the key takeaways and to tie everything together in a concise and organized manner. While it is important to support a writer's opinion with evidence throughout the paper, the conclusion should not be used to solely persuade the reader of the writer's opinion (option B). It is also not the purpose of the conclusion to introduce new ideas or thought-provoking questions (option C) as this should have been done earlier in the paper. Additionally, the conclusion should not provide a detailed analysis of the topic (option D) as this should have been done in the body of the paper.
